THE TURTLE ISLANDS
Known more often for it's troubled history of violence and disease, the West African nation of Sierra Leone is not usually seen as a tourist destination. But off the mangrove lined coast in the south of the country lie some of the most beautiful beaches in Africa. The Turtle Islands archipelago consists of 8 small sandy islands sat among sandbanks in the shallow waters of the Gulf of Guinea. With no roads, vehicles, or mains electricity, the islanders live a laid back existence and rely on fishing for their survival.
