Mango season

A boy paddles his dugout canoe past mango trees on a deserted beach in the remote Turtle Islands archipelago in southern Sierra Leone, where residents have been living off the land and the ocean in much the same way for hundreds of years. Largely insulated from the forces of modernity and globalisation prevalent on the mainland, the islands remain a bastion of traditional beliefs where magical spirits and the ghosts of the ancestors still reign supreme.
