Shireen
14-year-old Shireen flies a homemade kite in Khazir IDP camp in northern Iraq, where her family have lived since fleeing the conflict between ISIS and the Iraqi government in Mosul. Shireen refused to let the conflict crush her spirit and continues to find joy in the simple pleasures available to her. Across Iraq, ordinary people responded to the nihilistic violence of ISIS with strength, compassion and extraordinary resilience.
