WAITING FOR WAR IN THE DONBAS
By March 2015 Ukraine was split in two, with pro-Russian separatists in control of a vast swathe of the east of the country and the Ukrainian government holding onto the rest. With a fragile ceasefire still in place the war descended into a nervy stalemate with tit for tat skirmishes continuing along the frontline as both sides dug in for the long haul, waiting for the enemy to make the first move.
